Abstract Alginates are natural polysaccharides that extracted from brown seaweed varieties and it is widely used for their rheological properties. The main step in the extraction protocol of sodium alginate alkaline extraction. Sodium was produced by dipping 1% formaldehyde 2.5% carbonate solution properties were studied following standard methods. amount yield 31.7% Sargassum wightii . moisture content ash recorded at 16.82% 5.20%, respectively. viscosity gel strength noted as 40 vcP, 4.54 × 10 –2 kN with 0.1 M CaCl 2 6.86 0.2 This study method its reveal species have a high affinity to extract alginate.
